Cranberry Orange Scones

This scone is probably my favorite scone of all! I keep these baking all year long, frozen so they are ready to go in a pinch whenever I want that flavor of the holiday season. This flavor combination just reminds me of home and gives my soul and heart a little lift. Wait until your home fills with the scents of these delicious scones while you bake them up for your next tea party! This is a winner for sure!! These are the same scones I baked with Mama Sue’s Southern Kitchen!! That was such a fun day! They were a hit!

Ingredients

Cranberry Orange Scones
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp orange zest
  • 1/2 cup butter, frozen and grated
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 vanilla
  • 1 cup cranberries or craisens
  • Heavy cream and a little sugar for topping
Orange Glaze
  • 1 cup confectioners sugar
  • 2-3 Tbls orange juice

Instructions

Cranberry Orange Scones
  1. Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees. Spray a baking sheet with non stick cooking spray
  2. Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, orange zest and salt. Add cranberries or craisens
  3. Grate butter, add to the flour mixture and combine with a pastry cutter or two knives. You want to see pea sized crumbs
  4. Place this butter flour mixture in the refrigerator while you make your liquid ingredients
  5. Whisk together 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream, egg and vanilla
  6. Add to the butter/flour mixture. Stir to combine
  7. With lightly floured hands and a lightly floured surface, pat the dough into a 1/2' thickness. Cut into scones using a cookie cutter
  8. Bruch the tops of the scones with a little heavy cream and sprinkle with sugar
  9. Place scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for about 22-25 minutes until golden brown around the edges and lightly brown on top - a toothpick should come out clean
  10. Allow to cool while you make the glaze (recipe follows)
Orange Glaze
  1. Whisk together the confectioners sugar and orange juice. Add more sugar to thicken or more juice to thin.
  2. With a teaspoon, drizzle the glaze over the tops of the cooled scones
  3. Let the glaze set and cool
  4. Enjoy!
